Start applying at the roots and work toward the ends. Use a comb to distribute the mixture evenly. 4.) Leave the dye on for 40 minutes. For root touch-ups, apply the mixture to the regrowth and leave the dye on for 40 minutes. Once the processing time is up, gently massage the mixture with lukewarm water to create a lather. Rinse your hair thoroughly until the water runs clear. Shampoo your hair. For best results, use Herbatint or another organic shampoo, rinse, then towel-dry your hair.
