Collection: Selenium

Selenium is a mineral that is essential for health in many respects. The body incorporates selenium into special types of proteins called selenoproteins. Selenoproteins are required for important functions, such as the production of thyroid hormones. They also have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects.

Low selenium levels have been linked to a number of negative health consequences, including weakened immune function, as well as an increased risk of anxiety, infertility, heart disease, and even mortality.

Selenium must be obtained through diet. It is found in both animal and plant-based foods, including meat, cereals, Brazil nuts, fish, and eggs. However, due to fluctuations in the selenium content of the soil, the concentration of selenium in both plant and animal-based foods varies significantly.
